decentralized learning experiences
community led educational experiences
decentralized learning experiences is a new pilot program sponsored by icp, offering informal learning experiences in a variety of formats.
Shared learning experiences for the community.
ICP has always prided itself on being a participatory democracy offering a pluralistic psychoanalytic training program. In keeping with our ecumenical mission to expand the range of psychoanalysis and to open up learning and teaching to all, we have put together a radically democratic program: Decentralized Learning Experiences.
The premise behind this program is simply this: We have a large community of clinicians whose impressive range of skills and knowledge have gone largely untapped. This program offers anyone with skills or interests or ideas they would like to share an opportunity to offer a learning experience to the community. Since we believe that interesting ideas can come from anywhere, we expect that new concepts and ways of thinking will arise out of this project.
What is a learning experience?
A learning experience can be almost anything, and anyone can offer one. A learning experience can be about a paper or a book or a movie. It can tackle an idea, such as field theory or dream analysis or focus on the work of a theorist. The format can be didactic or it can be a leaderless seminar or a one-hour conversation. It can be a one-off event or a series of weekly or biweekly or monthly meetings.
There is a minimal screening process. Anyone who is a licensed clinician can offer a learning experience. We have coordinators, whose sole purpose is to help you with the logistics, coordinate with you and the office to arrange for a smooth registration process. We can also offer guidance and support around questions of group size, format, scheduling, etc., as well as provide advice on how to explain and market your learning experience. This is a pilot program, so some exceptions may apply.
